Konawa Reservoir is one of Oklahoma's top trophy lakes. [5] In August 1963, Konawa hosted its first All-Night Gospel Singing. During its heyday, an estimated twenty-five thousand people attended the annual event. The town maintains a council-city manager type of government. At the turn of the twenty-first century, Konawa had 1,479 residents. [5]

Edmond Harjo died from a heart attack at Mercy Hospital in Ada, Oklahoma, on March 31, 2014, at the age of 96. [1] [2] He was the last living Seminole code talker. [2] [3] Harjo never married and was survived by his nieces and nephews. [1] His funeral was held at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma on April 1, 2014.
