State Route 23 (abbreviated SR 23) is part of Maine's system of numbered state highways, running 68.09 miles (109.58 km) from Sidney to Guilford. It is located in the south-central part of the state, running from southwest to northeast, roughly parallel to Interstate 95 for its entire length.

From Gardiner, SR 24 used to run concurrently with US 201 and SR 27 to Sidney, a designation which was simply dropped following SR 24's truncation in 1954. The remainder of the route, which runs from Sidney to Guilford, was renumbered SR 23. This 1954 routing remains to the present. [2]

State Route 8 (SR 8) is part of Maine's system of numbered state highways, running from U.S. Route 201 (US 201) at Memorial Circle in Augusta, to an intersection with US 201 in Solon. SR 8 is 51.6 miles (83.0 km) long. SR 8 goes north from Augusta through the Belgrade Lakes region, running concurrently with Routes 11 and 27 to Belgrade.
