Chris van Wyk (1957 – 2014) was a South African children's book author, novelist and poet. Van Wyk is famous for his poem "In Detention" on the suspicious deaths that befell South African political prisoners during Apartheid. In 1976 he published a volume of poetry, It Is Time to Go Home (1979), that won the 1980 Olive Schreiner Prize.
In a partnership with the government of South Africa, which contributed to the Timbuktu trust fund, this project is the first official cultural project of the New Partnership for Africa's Development. It was founded in 2003 and is ongoing. They released a report on the project in 2008. [19]
Stephen Mesmin Alexis (1889–1962) was a Haitian novelist and diplomat. Born in Gonaïves, Alexis served as Haiti's ambassador to the United Kingdom and represented Haiti at the United Nations. He is best known for his novel Le Négre Masqué (1933). He is also credited with writing the most complete account of Toussaint Louverture's life.
