Tampa Rough Riders was created to perpetuate a living memorial to the unique accomplishments of President Theodore Roosevelt and the members of the 1st US Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, known as the Rough Riders.
The Krewe of Gasparilla was Tampa's only officially recognized Gasparilla krewe until the co-ed Krewe of Venus was organized in 1965.
