Gi-cheol, a former boxing champion, is appointed as a PE teacher at an all girls' high school in a small village, where a student named Han Soo-Yeon had recently gone missing. The girl's disappearance is largely a mystery, but Gi-cheol gets a strange feeling about the town after his arrival as all the villagers seem uptight and highly agitated.

Some 120 villagers flee to a cave and hide for 60 days from armed soldiers. Many of the soldiers are young recruits, shivering in the November snow, who are aware that the people they are shooting are not communists. Meanwhile, the villagers, huddled in the cave, grow more and more anxious about the people and livestock they have left behind.
When Dong-cheol arrives home after work, he learns that Ji-soo is kidnapped, where he receives a bag full of money from Gi-tae in exchange for the "purchase" of his wife. However, Gi-tae is unaware that Dong-cheol was a legendary fighter and gangster, now living a quiet life upon his wife's insistence.
