Thea Bowman Leadership Academy is a K-12 charter school in Gary, Indiana.It was established by the Drexel Foundation for Educational Excellence, Inc., and is managed by American Quality Schools, Inc.
Mary Thea Bowman, FSPA (born Bertha Elizabeth Bowman; December 29, 1937 – March 30, 1990) was a Black Catholic religious sister, teacher, musician, liturgist and scholar who made major contributions to the ministry of the Catholic Church toward African Americans.
Most of Gary is served by the Gary Community School Corporation. [1]Some portions are served by the Lake Ridge Schools Corporation. [1]Some Gary residents in the outskirts attend schools administered by the River Forest Community School Corporation; [1] River Forest does not operate any schools in Gary.

The building contained school classrooms, a convent, gymnasium, cafeteria and space for a parish hall. On June 7, 1994, the name of the school was changed to the Sister Thea Bowman School. It is now a charter school named the Thea Bowman Leadership Academy.
Former K-12 schools. St. Gabriel Mission School (Mound Bayou) - Opened as a K-8 school on September 7, 1954.High school opened in 1958. In 1961 the high school closed. Its non-preschool grades ended in 1994.
