The Greater Medan metropolitan area, known locally as Mebidangro (an acronym of Medan–Binjai–Deli Serdang–Karo) is a metropolitan area in North Sumatra, Indonesia, which consists of Medan City, Binjai City, Deli Serdang Regency and part (4 districts) of Karo Regency. The metropolitan area was established by a presidential decree in 2011. [3]
The best examples in Medan are Bank Indonesia (the former Javasche Bank, 1909) and the old Medan City Hall (1909). Unlike earlier low-quality architecture, the new traditionalist movement made use of modern materials, for example reinforced concrete and steel frames behind its classical facade.
The Old Medan City Hall was built in 1908 during the Dutch colonial period. The building was designed by C. Boon, an architect for the Deli Group. [1] The City Hall is kilometre zero in Medan, and was originally built for the Bank of Java (now Bank Indonesia), but was instead purchased by the City Council of Medan. [2]
Kompas (lit. ' Compass ') is an Indonesian national newspaper published in Jakarta, founded on 28 June 1965. It is published by PT Kompas Media Nusantara, which is part of Kompas Gramedia Group. The paper's head office is located at the Kompas Multimedia Towers, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. It is considered Indonesia's newspaper of record.
Medan Station, c. 1907. Main station of Medan, c. 1920. Medan Station was officially opened on 25 July 1886 by Deli Spoorweg Maatschappij. At that time there was a 16.7 kilometer line connecting Medan Station and Labuhan Station. [3] The line connects the city center of Medan to Port of Belawan.
