The rowing team (Headington School Oxford Boat Club) is one of the county's most successful school teams. It won the girls eights category at the National Schools Regatta in 2001 [ 14 ] and completed the rare "Women's triple" in 2009, 2014, 2015, and 2016 by winning the National Schools, Schools Head and Henley . Waddington was born in Wigan and attended Standish Community High School and began his career at Blackpool's academy. He also spent time playing for Wigan School Boys who were a collective group of talented individuals cherry picked from schools around the Wigan borough [2]

The school's name was commonly abbreviated and referred to by both pupils and staff as 'Rye'. Rye was unique as a girls' independent Catholic school due to the fact that it was founded by two women rather than by a religious order. In 2024, it merged with Headington School to become a new school, named "Headington Rye Oxford". [1]
