The Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra (Gewandhausorchester; also previously known in German as the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig) is a German symphony orchestra based in Leipzig, Germany. The orchestra is named after the concert hall in which it is based, the Gewandhaus ("Garment House").

The Bachorchester zu Leipzig (sometimes also Bachorchester Leipzig, formerly Bachorchester des Gewandhauses zu Leipzig) is a chamber orchestra made up of musicians from the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, which performs music by Johann Sebastian Bach and other masters of Baroque and pre-Classical music.

On February 25, 1850, Julius Rietz conducted the premiere of the Konzertstück at the Leipzig Gewandhaus. The four soloists—Eduard Pohle, Joseph Jehnigen, Eduard Julius Leichsenring, and Carl Heinrich Conrad Wilcke—were members of the Gewandhaus Orchestra. Schumann noted a "friendly reception" by the audience.
From the beginning of the 2009/2010 season [3] until 2014 he was chief conductor of the Leipzig Symphony Orchestra, which performed under the name "Westsächsisches Symphonieorchester" until 2011. He has also been guest conductor of various orchestras, including the Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. [4] [5]
Andris Nelsons OBE (born 18 November 1978) is a Latvian conductor. He is currently music director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Gewandhauskapellmeister of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra.
