The act ratifying the Treaty of Union was finally carried in the Parliament of Scotland by 110 votes to 69 on 16 January 1707, with a number of key amendments. News of the ratification and of the amendments was received in Westminster, where the Act was passed quickly through both Houses and received the royal assent on 6 March. [ 48 ]

An Act to explain the Act of the last Session of Parliament, for the Ease of Her Majesty's Subjects, in relation to Allowances out of the Duties upon Salt carried Coastwise; [g] and also an Act of the First Year of Her Majesty's Reign, in relation to certain Salt-works, near the Sea-side, and Bay of Holly-Head, in the County of Anglesea.
The Kingdom of Great Britain was established on 1 May 1707, shortly after the parliaments of Scotland and England had ratified the Treaty of Union by each approving Acts of Union combining the two parliaments and the powers of the two crowns. Scotland's crown, sceptre, and sword of state remained at Edinburgh Castle.
