Following the vote, student protesters occupied Garland Hall, the administration building of JHU's Homewood Campus for over a month, eventually locking Daniels and other administrators out of the building. Following the lockout, Daniels announced students that did not leave peacefully risked suspension or expulsion from the university.
The three-story Garland Hall is another Gothic Revival–style building on campus, built in 1887 [12] to house a dormitory and the first incarnation of the Alabama Museum of Natural History. Garland Hall, Johns Hopkins University's main administrative hall, was the home location of servers Povey was expected to maintain.
