The first season of The Voice of Vietnam began on 8 July 2012 and ended on 13 January 2013. The four original coaches are Đàm Vĩnh Hưng, Thu Minh, Hồ Ngọc Hà and Trần Lập, with Phan Anh hosting the show. This season didn't feature the "steal" and the Knockout round, contestant who won their battle were qualified for the live shows.

A lot of rumors arose when Cat Tien Sa announced that Giọng hát Việt- The Voice of Vietnam would return for its third season. In December 2014, it was speculated that Mỹ Tâm would become a coach in Thu Minh's previous position, especially when Thu Minh replaced Mỹ Tâm on the judging panel of Vietnam Idol for its sixth season. The fifth season of The Voice Kids of Vietnam- Giọng hát Việt nhí began on 12 August 2017 on VTV3. Vũ Cát Tường returned for her second season as a coach, while Noo Phước Thịnh, Đông Nhi and Ông Cao Thắng were replaced by singers Soobin Hoàng Sơn, Hương Tràm (The Voice season 1 winner), and Tiên Cookie, respectively.
