The whole country started observing DST in 1996, but Sonora discontinued the observance after 1998, Quintana Roo after 2014, and the rest of the country after 2022, except Baja California and municipalities near the U.S. border in Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, which continued observing DST according to the U.S. schedule.

In 1981, Malaysia decided to standardise the time across its territories to a uniform UTC+08:00. Singapore elected to follow suit, citing business and travel schedules.
