Edenton is a town in, and the county seat of, Chowan County, North Carolina, United States, [6] on Albemarle Sound. The population was 4,397 at the 2020 census . [ 7 ] Edenton is located in North Carolina's Inner Banks region.
The Bond House, Edenton, Chowan County, c. 1920 Chowan was formed in 1670 as a precinct, originally called Shaftesbury, in Albemarle County.By 1685 it had been renamed for the Chowan Indian tribe, which lived in the northeastern part of the Carolina Colony.
