The club competes in EFL League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system. The club was founded in 1878 as Grimsby Pelham Football Club. Grimsby are the only team from Lincolnshire to play in the first tier of English football and the only club to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
Nicknamed "the Mariners", the club was founded as Grimsby Pelham Football Club in 1878, changed its name to Grimsby Town a year later, and moved to its current stadium, Blundell Park, in 1898. The 2024–25 season is the 147th season in the history of Grimsby Town Football Club and their third consecutive season in League Two. In addition to the domestic league , the club would also participate in the FA Cup , the EFL Cup , and the EFL Trophy .
