Black Sabbath: The Dio Years is a 2007 compilation CD of material recorded by Black Sabbath during vocalist Ronnie James Dio's tenure in the band. The CD contains remastered tracks taken from the studio albums Heaven and Hell (1980), Mob Rules (1981), and Dehumanizer (1992), as well as a live version of the song "Children of the Sea" taken from the live album Live Evil (1982).
Dio sings a mix version of "I Spy". His Black Sabbath/Heaven & Hell bandmate Tony Iommi plays guitar on the track. David "Rock" Feinstein: Bitten By the Beast (2010) Dio sings "Metal Will Never Die". The track was subsequently included in The Very Beast of Dio Vol. 2 (2012). The Rods: Vengeance (2011) Dio sings "The Code".
It is the first Black Sabbath album to feature vocalist Ronnie James Dio, who replaced original vocalist Ozzy Osbourne in 1979. Produced by Martin Birch , the album was a commercial success, particularly in the United States, where it reached number 28 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified platinum for one million sales. Ronnie James "Dio" Padavona was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, to Italian-American parents [4] Patrick and Anna from Cortland, New York.His family moved to Portsmouth from Cortland as part of his father's service in the U.S. Army during World War II, [14] and they resided there for only a short time before returning to Cortland.

The band was formed in 1968 by John "Ozzy" Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (lead guitar), Terence "Geezer" Butler (bass guitar), and Bill Ward (drums).
The music was primarily written by guitarist Tony Iommi, but as with almost all Sabbath albums, credit is given to the entire band. The lyrics were entirely written by newcomer Ronnie James Dio. The album's lineup – Dio, Appice, Butler and guitarist Tony Iommi – reunited in 2006 for a greatest hits set, Black Sabbath: The Dio Years, and a new studio album in 2009, The Devil You Know (billed as Heaven & Hell). The album was re-released, with bonus content, on 7 February 2011. [13] [14]
For the release, Iommi, Butler, Dio, and Appice reunited to write and record three new songs as Black Sabbath. The Dio Years was released on 3 April 2007, reaching number 54 on the Billboard 200, while the single "The Devil Cried" reached number 37 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. [40]
