Yosemite Sam appears in multiple episodes of The Looney Tunes Show, voiced by Maurice LaMarche. Sam is depicted as being well meaning, but suffering anger problems. He first appeared in the show in three Merrie Melodies segments called "Blow My Stack", "Moostache" and "Stick to My Guns". Yosemite Sam is one of Bugs and Daffy's neighbors.
Yosemite Sam serves as the beleaguered royal chef to a petulant king, while enduring daily demands for meals while contending with the king's volatile temperament. When tasked with preparing hasenpfeffer (rabbit stew), a dish unfamiliar to him, Sam seeks assistance and encounters Bugs Bunny, who innocently seeks diced carrots.
Equipped with beach gear, he encounters Yosemite Sam, who mistakes Bugs for a trespasser and gives chase. Bugs outwits Sam at every turn, leading to comical confrontations. Eventually, Bugs traps Sam in a fort, where Sam faces a series of humiliating defeats. In the end, Bugs sets a trap for Sam, causing an explosion.
Bugs uses a series of disguises in order to fool Sam: first a banjo-playing slave, then Abraham Lincoln, then "Brickwall Jackson", then a Southern belle, and finally an injured Confederate soldier. In the last guise, he tricks Sam into heading for Tennessee by telling him "the Yankees are in Chattanooga ".
The short was released on June 12, 1948, and stars Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam. [2] The animated short is both a Western and a parody of the genre's conventions. [3] Voice characterizations are performed by Mel Blanc. It is the third cartoon to pair Bugs and Yosemite Sam, after Hare Trigger (1945) and Buccaneer Bunny (1948).
The cartoon is an adaptation of the Charles Dickens 1843 novella A Christmas Carol, featuring Yosemite Sam as Ebenezer Scrooge and Porky Pig as Bob Cratchit. [2] Bugs Bunny plays the ghost of Jacob Marley and Scrooge's nephew, Fred.
