Warren Dunes State Park is a 1,500-acre (610 ha) public recreation area located along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan in Berrien County, Michigan. [2] The state park 's large sand dunes and lakeshore beaches make it one of the most popular of Michigan's state parks with an average of about one million visitors annually.

Savage Neck Dunes Natural Area Preserve is a 298-acre (121 ha) Natural Area Preserve located in Northampton County, Virginia on the Chesapeake Bay. [2] Fifty-foot-tall (15 m) dunes within the preserve are among the highest points on Virginia's Eastern Shore .
Mount Rogers National Recreation Area is a United States national recreation area (NRA) in southwestern Virginia near the border with Tennessee and North Carolina. It centerpiece is the Lewis Fork Wilderness containing Mount Rogers , the highest point in the state of Virginia with a summit elevation of 5,729 feet (1746 m).
The woods are named for Edward Kirk Warren (1847-1919), the inventor of the featherbone corset (which replaced the whalebone in corsets with turkey feathers and secured his fortune). Starting in 1879, [3] Warren bought 150 acres (0.61 km 2) of the woods and 250 acres (1.0 km 2) of the dunes, setting them aside for preservation. [4]
A large picnic area is near the beach and overlooks the lake. Five pavilions are available by reservation or first-come, first-served. A rustic, wooded campground is open mid-April through mid-December. Twelve miles (19 km) of trails are open to hiking. Chapman State Park is also open to hunting and fishing in the streams as well as the lake.
