Symonds Yat Rock was used as a location for some episodes of Series 5 of the BBC television drama Merlin. Symonds Yat was used as a location for some of the shots filmed in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1; The Saracens Head Inn in the hamlet of Symonds Yat East was featured in Escape to the Country on BBC One in 2014.

Symonds Yat Rapids are a grade-2 man-made feature on the River Wye, near Symonds Yat on the Gloucestershire and Herefordshire border. [1] They are most commonly used by canoeists and kayakers for whitewater training and playboating .
The valley has been inhabited for at least 12,000 years. Caves near Symonds Yat and Chepstow provide evidence of settlement dating from Palaeolithic times, and finds from later stone ages such as the Neolithic have also been found. These have yielded evidence of how prehistoric human populations lived as nomadic hunters and traders.
