The combined barrel-head was to be die-cast in aluminum with cast-iron cylinder liners. Each of these castings also included a channel for the pushrod path, doing away with the previous design's pushrod tubes. Valve covers were held in place by quick-release clips.
American Motors introduced a die-cast aluminum block version of the OHV 195.6 cu in (3.2 L) engine in 1961. It was produced through 1964. [8] This engine used cast-iron cylinder liners and a cast-iron head. The cylinder heads for the two types of block (aluminum and cast iron) have similar designs but are not interchangeable.

It was originally built to cast engine blocks and cylinder heads for the Chevrolet Turbo-Air 6 engine used in the Chevrolet Corvair from 1960 until 1969. The series launched with a die-cast aluminum engine block, aluminum cylinder heads and magnesium cylinder head covers. [1] All UR engines feature variable valve timing for both intake and exhaust cams or Dual VVT-i. Timing chains are used to drive the camshafts. The UR engine has been produced in 4.6, 5.0, and 5.7-liter displacement versions.
