"Shuttin' Detroit Down" is a song co-written and recorded by American country music singer John Rich, one half of the duo Big & Rich. The song addresses the issue of the government bailouts of financial institutions, and has received heavy rotation on Michigan radio stations, as well as others around the country.
Rich co-wrote the song with fellow country singer John Anderson, and sent the song to radio in late January 2009, thus halting the chart run of "Another You". "Shuttin' Detroit Down" debuted at number 34 on the country charts, giving Rich his first solo Top 40 single of his career. [4] It reached a peak of number 12 after nine weeks on the chart.
The song, "Another You", is the lead-off single to Rich's second studio album, Son of a Preacher Man, which was released on March 24, 2009. He followed this song up with another single, " Shuttin' Detroit Down ", recorded only one week before its release in January 2009.
The album produced the single "Cold Coffee and Hot Beer." Anderson co-produced the album and co-wrote all of the tracks, and includes his version of "Shuttin' Detroit Down," a protest song he wrote with John Rich, who included it on his 2009 album Son of a Preacher Man from which it was released as a single.
