The scales have transverse and longitudinal ridges across the middle of the scale surface. The seeds are winged, 6–7 millimetres (1 ⁄ 4 – 9 ⁄ 32 in) long with a 1.5–2.5 cm wing. Pollination occurs in mid-spring, with the cones maturing 18–20 months after. [citation needed]
For example, SpeedTree is a middleware package that procedurally generates trees which can be used to quickly populate a forest. [1] Whereas most games use this technique to create a static environment for the final product, some employ procedural generation as a game mechanic , such as to create new environments for the player to explore.
The name Pinus coulteri comes from Latin for pine, and coulteri comes from its discoverer Thomas Coulter (1793–1843), an Irish botanist and physician. [9] Pinus coulteri was discovered by Dr. Coulter on the mountains of Santa Lucia, near the Mission of San Antonio, in latitude 36°, within sight of the sea and at an elevation of from 3000 to 4000 feet above its level.
The piñon pine (Pinus edulis) is a small to medium size tree, reaching 3.0–6.1 metres (10–20 ft) tall and with a trunk diameter of up to 80 centimetres (31 in), rarely more. Its growth is "at an almost inconceivably slow rate" growing only 1.8 meters (6 ft) in one hundred years under good conditions.

However, it grows very slowly and it may take 30 years for the tree to reach 1.3 metres (4.3 ft). [citation needed] The cones, which contain the seeds (or nuts), of the Swiss pine are 4 centimetres (1.6 in) to 8 centimetres (3.1 in) long. Cones take 2 years (24 months) to mature.
The cones are 10–18 cm (4–7 in) long and 9–11 cm (3 + 1 ⁄ 2 – 4 + 1 ⁄ 2 in) wide when open, with wrinkled, reflexed apophyses and an umbo curved inward at the base. The seeds ( pine nuts ) are 17–23 millimetres ( 5 ⁄ 8 – 7 ⁄ 8 in) long and 5–7 mm ( 3 ⁄ 16 – 1 ⁄ 4 in) broad, with a thin shell and a rudimentary wing.
