The horizontal alignment of the header text and content text can be manipulated using the parameters |head-align= and |content-align=. Valid options are left (default), center, or right. Do not use quotes (i.e. not "center") or the color of the header may change.
Solution: divide one of the tall cells so that the row gets one rowspan=1 cell (and don't mind the eventual loss of text-centering). Then kill the border between them.
