This will only help if you magnet links don't automatically open up in uTorrent. I would suggest to all of you using any of the 3.1 versions of uTorrent to update to the 3.2 beta 27138 version. I didn't touch the 3.1 series at all as people seemed to have various problems with it.
The torrent never appeared in my list and I deleted utorrent and reinstalled. It is still telling me that the torrent is in my list when I only have 3 torrents in my list. In a last effort to get it working I deleted all in active torrents. It was a magnet link torrent and it's really making me want to through something against the wall.
Because of the extensive use of urn:sha1: hashes to define an entire file rather than the info hash of a torrent (look at gnutella networks for examples), it is considered reserved for purposes of magnets, which is why urn:btih: is used instead.
Step 1: Open Ares, go to Control Panel, go to the tab BitTorrent, uncheck ''Make Ares my default torrent client", quit Ares. Step 2: Open uTurrent, go to preferences (under options), under general, hit the button: Associate with .torrent files. The sky is just fine.

Found this, give it a go: The solution in Windows 7 is to edit the registry entry for magnet links. Open regedit and change the value of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\magnet\shell\open\command\ to match the program you want to use to open magnet links, the associated icon is defined in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\magnet\DefaultIcon.

Unrelated post to the main topic, but thought to clear one point here. As of now, magnet link is supported in the beta android app (I use version 1.15.22 (build 28745)).
As an exercise, I did this: went to a site that has "Download torrent file" and "Download as magnet link" for the same torrent. When I clicked on "Download torrent file," the DL began almost immediately. When I clicked on "Download as magnet link," there was a brief pause, and then the .torrent file was recognized and the DL began.

- There was no torrent added. - Clicked on magnet link again and then I got the message about it being already in the list. But there is nothing there. - Added a new (different torrent), that works. - Adding the .torrent file (that belongs to the magnet link) doesn't work either. - Options -> Preferences -> Directories are all not set.
