Bagan (Burmese: ပုဂံ; MLCTS: pu.gam, IPA: [bəɡàɰ̃]; formerly Pagan) is an ancient city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Myanmar. The Gawdawpalin Temple (Burmese: ကန်တော့ပလ္လင်ဘုရား, IPA: [ɡɔ́dɔ̰pəlɪ̀ɰ̃ pʰəjá]) is a Buddhist temple located in Bagan, Myanmar. Construction of the pagoda began in 1203 during the reign of Sithu II (1174–1211) [ 2 ] and completed on 26 March 1227 [ 3 ] during the reign of Htilominlo (1211–1235).
The temple's architectural height (nyandaw) is 61.3 metres (201 ft) tall; [8] [2] its pinnacle height is 66 metres (217 ft). [5] [9] It is the tallest temple in Bagan. [5] [9] It is not the tallest structure in Bagan, however; the tallest is the Shwesandaw Pagoda, which is at least 100 m (328 ft) tall, [10] without counting the hti spire.

Lemyethna temple was built in 1222 or 1223 in Bagan, near the village of Min Nanthu. [1] Archaeological evidence suggests that the temple was built on top of a foundation erected by the Pyu civilization , [ 2 ] [ 3 ] which had ruled Bagan before the formation of the Pagan Empire .
