East Island is an island, formerly about 11 acres (45,000 m 2) in area, one-half mile (800 m) long and 400 feet (120 m) wide, now greatly reduced in size. East Honolulu is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Honolulu County, Hawaii, United States. As of the 2020 Census , the CDP had a population of 50,922, making it the 2nd most populated CDP in Hawaii, behind Honolulu .
In modern times, Hawaiʻi is known commonly as the "Big Island" to reduce confusion between the island and the state itself. The island also contains the state's highest peak: Mauna Kea at 13,803 feet (4,207 m). Hawaiʻi County as a whole has 27 islands and a total population of 185,079.
Hawaiʻi Kai is located approximately 12 miles (19 km) east of the Central Business District (CBD) of Honolulu. In the 2000 U.S. Census the U.S. Census Bureau defined Hawaiʻi Kai as being in the urban Honolulu census-designated place. [2] For the 2010 U.S. Census the bureau created a new census-designated place, East Honolulu. [3]
