My best recommendation is to go to a good running shoe store. I don't mean a big box seller like REI. If they sell anything other than shoes, socks and running apparel, you are in the wrong store. Ask to try ATRs. That stands for All Terrain Running shoes.
Salomon Speedcross 3's seem to be the most predominant. I wear the Salomon Fellraiser's. Innov-8 and Adidas also make some aggressive trail running shoes.

I started wearing trail running shoes such as the Salomon Speedcross and while that trail shoe idea was okay, the low tops quickly became a problem with debris easily entering my sock and no waterproofing with zero ankle support. "Trigger shoes." Can somebody clarify this? One rule says aftermarket triggers are allowed, then a couple lines later, a rule says trigger shoes are an excluded modification. I thought a full aftermarket trigger like Zev, with a different trigger shoe, was allowed in ESP. BTW, I did try to search. EDIT: Another IDPA trigger question.
I’ve been using STI triggers sourced from Brazos in new gun builds and other OEM gun upgrades lately. You’ll have to fit whatever you buy. Pretty much the same amount of material removal from trigger shoes to fit most triggers, unless you get an Infinity trigger bow with interchangeable shoes. Those require a lot more material removal.
