Niles history goes back before its incorporation in 1899. It was first settled by Potawatomi Indians in the 1700s. The first pioneers were mainly German, settling in this area because of the rich farmland and its low cost.

The Niles Senior Center offers programs to support the health, well being and social needs of seniors, age 55 and over. The Center offers a variety of programs such as luncheons, health education, clubs, and day trips, as well as classes on topics ranging from dance to cooking to yoga to computer instruction.
