The river originates in the Barisan Mountains of West Sumatra and flows to the island's eastern coast, emptying into the Malacca Strait, directly opposite Singapore.It is the confluence of two tributaries of almost equal size: the Kampar Kanan River (or Right Kampar) and the Kampar Kiri River (or Left Kampar).
The river springs out of Mount Gadang. It flows first to the north, and then turning to east meets its tributaries Batang Kapur Nan Gadang and Batang Mahat. It runs across the Lima Puluh Kota and Kampar regencies, then meets the Kampar Kiri River, which is almost equal in size, in the area of Langgam ( Pelalawan Regency ).

Cossatot River State Park-Natural Area is a 5,299.65-acre (2,144.69 ha) Arkansas state park in Howard County and Polk County, Arkansas in the United States. The park follows a rough, undeveloped 12.5 miles (20.1 km) of the Cossatot River .
The Black Fork Mountain Wilderness Area is located in the U.S. states of Arkansas and Oklahoma. Created by an act of Congress in 1984, the wilderness covers an area of 13,139 acres (53 km²). The Arkansas portion contains 8,430 acres (34.1 km 2) and the Oklahoma portion contains 5,140 acres (20.8 km 2).
