Indigenous rice terracing technologies have been identified with the Ifugao’s rice terraces such as their knowledge of water irrigation, stonework, earthwork and terrace maintenance. As their source of life and art, the rice terraces have sustained and shaped the lives of the community members.
All located in the Ifugao region, the Rice Terraces also feature as one of the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Sites or GIAHS. They are supported by indigenous knowledge management of muyong, a private forest that caps each terrace cluster. The muyong is managed through a collective effort and under traditional tribal practices.
Binakle is a type of steamed rice cake originating from the Ifugao province of the Philippines. It is made from glutinous rice (diket) that is pounded into a paste, wrapped in banana or rattan leaves, and steamed. Variants may also add sesame seeds or sweet potato.
