At 10:00 am on 24 October 2012 all analogue television transmissions ended in Ireland, [96] and RTÉ's television channels are now only available digitally on Saorview, satellite, and cable. Also on 24 October 2012, for the first time RTÉ 1 and RTÉ 2 were broadcast from transmitters within Northern Ireland on the UK Freeview system.

RTÉ Television is a department of Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ), Ireland's public service broadcaster. Its first channel was Telefís Éireann, which began broadcasting on 31 December 1961. [1] Since the 1960s, RTÉ Television has added channels and digital television service.
Reeling in the Years is a television series shown on the Irish public broadcaster RTÉ. Each episode, running for about 25 minutes, reviews the events of a particular selected year, from 1962 to 2019. News archive footage features, along with subtitles as the means of narration, to recount important national and international events of the time.
24 May – The RTÉ website, www.rte.ie, is launched. [1] 24 May – RTÉ 1 premieres the BBC television drama Ballykissangel. Not only was the series British, but it was also Irish as it was set in the Republic of Ireland and filmed in Avoca and Enniskerry in County Wicklow as well as being produced-in house by BBC Northern Ireland.
