The Cirrus Design Corporation, doing business as Cirrus Aircraft (formally Cirrus Design), is an aircraft design, manufacturing, maintenance and management company, as well as a provider of flight training services, that was founded in 1984 by Alan and Dale Klapmeier to produce the VK-30 homebuilt aircraft.
Cirrus started developing the ST-50 in the mid 1990s under contract to Israeli aircraft manufacturer IsrAviation. The aircraft was configured like the VK-30 but was powered by a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6-135 engine, in place of the piston engine used in the VK-30. The ST-50 prototype was first flown on December 7, 1994. [47]
As ADC began to run out of the Renault engines in 1928, Cirrus Aero Engines Limited was formed at Croydon to manufacture the Cirrus models from scratch.. Although Halford was no longer associated with it (having gone off to develop the next-generation but otherwise similar de Havilland Gipsy series), the Cirrus company continued to develop new models, with the uprated Hermes appearing in 1929.

The plane Anderson was flying had not yet been equipped with the standard CAPS that would come on every aircraft. [14] [21] Due to Cirrus being in very early production phase, the company was 10 days away from receiving production model chute systems at the time of Anderson's death. Cirrus has never test-flown an aircraft without a parachute ...
Avidyne was first to certify big glass for light GA with the 2003 launch of Entegra in Cirrus aircraft. This is considered a "first generation" big-glass system that integrates the six 3-inch instruments (6-pack) into a more usable package, along with an exceptionally reliable Air Data and Heading Reference System (ADAHRS) that replaces the "spinning mass" attitude and directional gyros.
Any DoD contract involving the production, modification, maintenance, repair, or overhaul of aircraft must contain one of these two clauses which requires the US Government to assign a GFR to oversee the contractor's operations. These two clauses serve to both indemnify the contractor (reducing program expenses) and also to help protect the assets.
