Westfield North Lakes is a shopping centre in North Lakes on the northern outskirts of Brisbane. The centre first opened in on 7 August 2003 and initially included around 80 stores including Target and Coles. In early 2007, construction began on a major extension that was set to bring the total number of stores in the centre to over 200.
The Myer retail group was founded by Sidney Myer, who migrated from Belarus to Melbourne in 1899 after the height of Victoria's gold rush, with very little money and little knowledge of English to join his elder brother, Elcon Myer (1875–1938), who had left Russia two years earlier.
The centre was built by Myer Shopping Centres as part of an extensive subdivision of the area, which at the time was the largest remaining underdeveloped, nonindustrial land in the Adelaide metropolitan area. The centre opened in September 1970. [1] Located in the City of Tea Tree Gully, it is the major shopping hub for the north-east of Adelaide.
The suburb includes parklands, schools and shops and also many new facilities in the area, including the North Lakes Community Centre, North Lakes Bus Station, industrial estate, and Westfield North Lakes. Uptown is a six-floor shopping complex located on the Queen Street Mall in the central business district of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] The centre was named The Myer Centre from its opening in 1988 to 2023 as it was the site of Queensland's largest Myer department store.
