That switched around rankings. Also keep in mind Northeastern is often a 5 year school because of their highly regarded Co-op program. One of the metrics used for ratings is percent graduating in 4 years, so that affects Northeastern’s ranking negatively despite being a huge draw for the school and for employers hiring Northeastern grads.
Hello! This post is pinned as a way for people to easily find threads of decisions from previous years. 2020/2021 ED1 - Wednesday - December 9th - 7PM EA - Wednesday - January 27th - 5-6PM rolling out geographically E…. One of the things Northeastern is most known for is its co-op program.
Colleges and Universities A-Z Northeastern University. illusiondestiny December 23, 2010, 9:54pm 1.
Hi,
.
I got accepted into both Northeastern and MCPHS for the 6 year pharmacy program. I was wondering if people had any pros and cons for both schools. Both are equally far away from home (I’m from CA) and although MCPHS’s tuition ...
Co-ops are very good for giving students fairly extensive lab/research background, and you can absolutely go straight from Northeastern to med school without gap year. In fact, my daughter’s best friend at Northeastern did just one co-op, did summer school and still graduated in 4 years – then went directly to Tufts medical school.
Hi guys, My son has been accepted to these universities, for computer science. We live in the Boston suburbs. UMass tuition would be the lowest for us, as in-state. UW Madison has the highest ranking here, but would it justify $21K/year more (though we still can afford) and 4 years living far from home? NEU is the most expensive one. We hardly can get any merit scholarship, but they have a ...
jeffreycone January 18, 2009, 1:57pm 7.
Son attends NU but was accepted to Penn State amongst other schools. Chose NU for various reasons; proximity to our home, co-op, city vs. rural, etc. Came down to Boston vs. University Park, PA. He finds living, working and studying in such a special place as Boston is, suits him perfectly well and NU ...

Totoro66 May 24, 2018, 6:44pm 18. NU has the right trajectory and has surpassed BU and BC in selectivity, although it is still slightly behind them in USNWR rankings (forget the Forbes BS ranking, Forbes has no credibility in college rankings). Now, as for program quality, it depends on the college.
Northeastern’s difference often comes from rankings using the 4 year graduation rate, which is very low since Northeastern is a 5 year school for most of the student body with the co-op program. Northeastern also changed a lot in the past 20 years or so, and rankings that use metrics of opinion and perceived prestige lag behind.
LBad96 March 26, 2016, 5:49am 2. UW Seattle. Although the difference is marginal, it’s a better school than Northeastern. PengsPhils March 26, 2016, 5:01pm 3. Both have great engineering programs and academics - I think it comes down more to preference when there’s the case of marginal difference. A couple other things to consider/note.
