In the late 1950s, mounting demands surfaced for the representation of the PMC in various significant national events on a musical level. The then Commandant of the Philippine Marines, Commander Gregorio Lim, who was inspired and impressed with the performance and visit of the United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps to Manila, initiated the organization of the MDBT.
It was named in honor of the first American High Commissioner to the Philippines Frank Murphy. It was renamed Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo in 1965, after the first president of the Philippines. [ 7 ] [ 8 ] The Philippine Constabulary General Service Battalion was the first to use the camp in January 1935.
Established in 1936, [1] it was renamed in honor of Colonel Melchor dela Cruz, who was killed after his helicopter was shot down by the communist New People's Army over San Mariano, Isabela during reconnaissance operations against the rebel group on 8 November 1971.
