This template is used to display a small flag icon next to a wikilinked country name. It is related to the {{ flag icon }} , {{ flag country }} and {{ flagu }} templates, but offers more options in terms of the text string displayed.
However, {{flag country}} could be used within other templates (such as infoboxes) so that country codes can be used for those template parameters. {{flag country|ITA|1861}} → Italy Similar to the first example, but with a flag variant parameter to select a historical flag image.
