Route 4 (Chinese: 四號幹綫) is an east-west road artery along the Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. Formerly divided into routes 7 (Causeway Bay - Aberdeen) and 8 (Utilisation of Island Eastern Corridor), it was absorbed into Route 4 in 2004.
The five east-west routes — Route 4, Route 5, Route 6, Route 7, Route 8 and Route 10 — are numbered from south to north. Route 4 runs along the north shore of Hong Kong Island, connecting the eastern and western ends of the island, whereas Routes 5, 6 and 7 link southern New Territories with parts of Kowloon.
The Island Eastern Corridor (IEC) is an expressway built along the northeastern shore of Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong. It starts from Causeway Bay in the west and ends in Chai Wan in the east. It is mostly part of Route 4. The section between Causeway Bay and Quarry Bay consists mainly of viaducts built along Victoria Harbour.
The Central–Wan Chai Bypass is a four-kilometre (2.5 mi) trunk road running between Sheung Wan and Fortress Hill on Hong Kong Island.The original design consists of a 2.3 km dual three-lane tunnel running under new reclamation areas provided by the Central and Wan Chai Reclamation project, [1] and also connections to Connaught Road West flyover and Island Eastern Corridor.
