In some areas of England, Year 6 is a year group in Middle school, which covers the year 5–8 or 4–7-year groups. In some parts of England, where there remain separate Grammar and Secondary modern schools, students in Year 6 may sit a test for entrance into a Grammar school. The test is known colloquially as the Eleven plus exam.
Judgements in reading, writing and mathematics are supported by test papers which are administered during May of Year 2. The reading and maths tests are statutory for schools. Schools can choose to use an optional Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling test to support judgements in writing. There is no test available for science. [6]
The Speaking test assesses grammar, vocabulary, organization, substance, and style. The G-TELP Speaking Test takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. The test has about 30 questions and a score range between Level 1 and Level 11, with test takers grouped into eleven proficiency levels for Speaking. [11] [12]
In Berkshire and Buckinghamshire it was also possible to sit the test a year early – a process named the ten-plus; later, the Buckinghamshire test was called the twelve-plus and taken a year later than usual. Originally, the test was voluntary; as of 2009, some 30% of students in Northern Ireland do not sit for it. [4]
Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia – Malaysian Higher School Certificate is a test usually taken by students at the end of Form 6; UPSR – Entrance test into Secondary Schools for Malaysia; HKDSE – Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination. Taken by Form 6 students, used for universities admission.
Under the National Curriculum, all pupils undergo National Curriculum Tests towards the end of Key Stage 2 at Year 6 in the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science. Pupils normally take GCSE exams in the last two years of Key Stage 4 at Year 11, but may also choose to work towards the attainment of alternative qualifications.
The other major standardized test in Connecticut is the Connecticut Academic Performance Test, or CAPT, which is given in grade 10. Until the 2005–2006 school year, the CMT was administered in the fall; now it is given in the spring. The CMT is graded on a scale from 1 to 5 in each area, on this scale: 5 - "Advanced" 4 - "Goal" 3 - "Proficient"
Sixth grade (also 6th grade or grade 6) is the sixth year of formal or compulsory education.Students in sixth grade are usually 11-12 years old. It is commonly the first or second grade of middle school or the last grade of elementary school, and the sixth school year since kindergarten.
