Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (26 August 1819 – 14 December 1861), who married Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom on 10 February 1840. They had nine children. The marriage was unhappy because both husband and wife were promiscuous.

[1] [2] It was the last of several portraits Winterhalter painted of Albert before the prince's death in 1860.
Louise died of cancer on 30 August 1831, when she was only 30 years old. Years after her death, Queen Victoria described Louise in an 1864 memorandum: "The princess is described as having been very handsome, though very small; fair, with blue eyes; and Prince Albert is said to have been extremely like her". [7]
As a son of Prince Albert, he also held the titles of Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Duke of Saxony. He was created Prince of Wales and Earl of Chester on 8 December 1841, Earl of Dublin on 17 January 1850, [4] [5] [b] a Knight of the Garter on 9 November 1858, and a Knight of the Thistle on 24 May 1867.
