An M56 used as a fire truck in the Lane Motor Museum. The Dodge M37 was a 3 ⁄ 4-ton 4x4 truck developed for service in the United States military as a successor to the widely used Dodge-built WC Series introduced during World War II.
The engines were produced in two major variants differing by their piston displacement: a 3.3 L; 201.4 cu in (3,301 cc) and a 3.8 L; 230.5 cu in (3,778 cc). The 3.3 was dropped after 2010 with the Chrysler minivans, and the 3.8 was dropped after 2011 with the Jeep Wrangler, ending 22 years in production.
After the introduction of the Plymouth brand in 1929, the base engine has been subjected to a major redesign and enlarged to 175.4 cu in (2,874.3 cc) with the power rating remaining the same. It also equipped Dodge light trucks in 1929–1930.
