A saturation dome uses the projection of a P–v–T diagram (pressure, specific volume, and temperature) onto the P–v plane. The points that create the left-hand side of the dome represent the saturated liquid states, while the points on the right-hand side represent the saturated vapor states (commonly referred to as the “dry” region).
The curve agrees completely with the numerical results referenced earlier. In the region inside the spinodal curve there are two states at each point, one stable and one metastable, either superheated liquid to the right of the blue curve, or subcooled vapor to the left, while outside the spinodal curve there is one stable state at each point.
The solid–liquid phase boundary can only end in a critical point if the solid and liquid phases have the same symmetry group. [5] For most substances, the solid–liquid phase boundary (or fusion curve) in the phase diagram has a positive slope so that the melting point increases with pressure.
DWSIM is an open-source CAPE-OPEN compliant chemical process simulator for Windows, Linux and macOS.DWSIM is built on top of the Microsoft .NET and Mono Platforms and features a graphical user interface (GUI), advanced thermodynamics calculations, reactions support and petroleum characterization / hypothetical component generation tools.
Vapor pressure of liquid and solid benzene. Equilibrium vapor pressure can be defined as the pressure reached when a condensed phase is in equilibrium with its own vapor. In the case of an equilibrium solid, such as a crystal, this can be defined as the pressure when the rate of sublimation of a solid matches the rate of deposition of its vapor ...
The main feature of thermodynamic diagrams is the equivalence between the area in the diagram and energy. When air changes pressure and temperature during a process and prescribes a closed curve within the diagram the area enclosed by this curve is proportional to the energy which has been gained or released by the air.
The saturated liquid curve and saturated vapor curve (both identified in Fig. A) together comprise the saturation curve. The inset in Figure A shows the mixture states , which are a combination of the saturated liquid and vapor states that correspond to each end of the horizontal mixture line (that is, the points of intersection between the ...
The Kelvin equation describes the change in vapour pressure due to a curved liquid–vapor interface, such as the surface of a droplet. The vapor pressure at a convex curved surface is higher than that at a flat surface. The Kelvin equation is dependent upon thermodynamic principles and does not allude to special properties of materials.
