Udawattakele Forest Reserve often spelled as Udawatta Kele, is a historic forest reserve on a hill-ridge in the city of Kandy.It is 104 hectares (257 acres) large. During the days of the Kandyan kingdom, Udawattakele was known as "Uda Wasala Watta" in Sinhalese meaning "the garden above the royal palace".
The park was created in 1934, [2] approved as a forest park in 1989 and the lake was listed as a key national scenic area in 1998. According to the government of Changchun, the park is the largest man-made forest in Asia. [1] The man-made forest had an area of 1,000 hectares in the 1930s, but by 2015 the area was around 10,000 hectares. [2]
The national park was established in October 2005, (Chinese: 银石滩; lit. 'Silver Pebble Beach') was formally named Dalian Yinshitan Forest National Park. The park was the first to allow individuals to contribute to the ecological protection and exploration of the area.
