The site, located in Hartford, Illinois, commemorates Camp River Dubois, the camp of the Lewis and Clark Expedition from December 1803 to May 1804. The site is National Trail Site #1 on the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and is located directly off the Confluence Bike Trail, part of the Confluence Greenway.

U.S. Route 54 (US 54) in Illinois is a 23.9-mile-long (38.5 km) east–west highway that travels from the Champ Clark Bridge on the Missouri state line to I-72/US 36/IL 107 south of Griggsville. At its greatest extent, US 54 used to continue east to Springfield , then northeast to Onarga , and then north all the way to Downtown Chicago .
U.S. 36 is overlapped with Interstate 72 for more than half its routing in Illinois, 133 miles (214 km). At Decatur , I-72 separates from it and travels around the city to the north, while US 36 enters the city and passes through downtown on the four-lane Eldorado Street.
