William Roche died in 1939. His widow, Kathleen, became chair. His son, William Junior, began working with the firm in 1937. His other son, Stanley, began in 1937 and his other son, Raymond, began with the business in 1950. [1] The Lord Mayor of Dublin inaugurated Ireland's first escalator, in Roches Stores' Dublin branch, on 25 March 1963. [2]
The Djinn chair is a piece of furniture in the Modernist style, created by French designer Olivier Mourgue in the 1960s. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] Originally called the "Low fireside chair", [ 2 ] it is also commonly referred to as the " 2001 chair", because of its prominent appearance in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey .
Kittinger Company furniture was used extensively in the redesign since this company was the sole licensee of furniture for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation's famous program to produce exact reproductions of 18th century antiques. [6] Included in the redesign was a new conference table and chairs for the cabinet room.
