This episode is also known as "Ecky Thump". It was written by The Goodies , with songs and music by Bill Oddie . In January 2020, "Kung Fu Kapers" was announced as the fans' favourite episode of The Goodies , during the celebration of the show's 50th anniversary at Bristol's Slapstick Festival.
The name of the track comes from the north-English exclamation "Ecky thump!" (Both “ecky” and “thump” are euphemisms for hell.) The phrase was popularized in an episode of the British comedy series The Goodies. The album title was then changed to "Icky" to make it more accessible to American teenage audiences. [5]
The Goodies were a trio of British comedians: Tim Brooke-Taylor (17 July 1940 – 12 April 2020), Graeme Garden (b. 18 February 1943) and Bill Oddie (b. 7 July 1941). The trio created, wrote for and performed in their eponymous television comedy show from 1970 until 1982, combining sketches and situation comedy.

The title is derived from "ecky thump", a Lancashire colloquial response of surprise, popularized by an episode of the 1970s UK comedy series The Goodies. On Later with Jools Holland (broadcast June 1, 2007) Jack attributed the album's name to its use as an exclamation by his wife , who is from Oldham , historically in Lancashire .
This became the basis for an episode of The Goodies where "Ecky Thump" was a secret Lancastrian martial art, the episode parodying the then-popular TV show Kung Fu. The Old Jokes Home. The old jokes, of which there were many (see script below) were sometimes sent to the Old Jokes Home. 'Spot'.
