The incumbent was Republican Mark Amodei, who was re-elected with 56.5% of the vote in 2020. [4] Following redistricting, the 2nd district was expanded to include White Pine County and more of Lyon County, and includes the cities of Reno, Sparks, and Carson City. [5]
Although the district appears rural, its politics are dominated by Reno and Carson City, which combined cast over 85 percent of the district's vote. The incumbent Republican Mark Amodei, who had represented the 2nd district since September 2011, ran for re-election.
A member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, Amodei won his first full term in a special election in 2011 in a district that has leaned solidly Republican since its creation. No Democrat has ever won in the rural northern district and no Democrat filed to run this year. Amodei defeated Greg Kidd, who filed as a nonpartisan candidate.
The race was called for Mark Amodei by the Associated Press just after 10 p.m. local time with 44% of precincts reporting and Amodei leading Marshall 57% to 37%. [3] Amodei easily won the election by a margin of 58% to 36%.
