Semarang was granted city status (Gemeente) during the Dutch East Indies period on 1 April 1906, and a city council (gemeenteraad) comprising 23 members was formed. [1] Together with the city councils of Surabaya and Bandung, Semarang's city council was the first in the Dutch East Indies to have elected women as councillors in 1938. [2]
Tuntang (Dutch: Toentang) is an administrative district (kecamatan), and a town within that district, in Semarang Regency of Central Java Province, Indonesia. The Dutch built a railway station in the town. The district covers 56.24 sq.km, and is adjacent to the city of Salatiga on the latter's northwest side.
