Son'a vessels carried and used isolytic burst weapons, a type of subspace weapon. They were seen using this weapon against the Enterprise-E in Star Trek: Insurrection. The Enterprise was only able to escape the weapon's effect by ejecting its warp core and detonating it to seal a subspace rift.
Faster-than-light warp drive travel via subspace obeys different laws of physics. The name "subspace" has also been adopted and used in other fictional settings, such as the Stargate franchise, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, the Bobiverse series, and Descent: Freespace.
A rift is formed, and the Fleming becomes trapped in the damaged space. The Enterprise crew manages to find a way to "coast" through the rift without using warp drive within it by initiating a short warp jump at maximum speed, then beams up the Fleming crew and escapes by "surfing" the disruption waves produced by the rift.

Verterium cortenide is a usually synthetically generated compound, the only known substance to be capable of generating warp fields, when supplied with energy, in form of plasma, from the warp core. Warp coils are made of this material. Benamite is a rare and unstable form of crystal required to construct and run a quantum slipstream drive.
Harry Kim, now acting as captain, orders the warp core ejected to bring the ship out of warp and allow them time to contact the ship for help, knowing this may tear the ship apart. The real Voyager receives a distress call and heads towards the coordinates, but finds only remnants of the biomimetic liquid drifting in space. Janeway makes a note ...
Seven is able to access the ship's deflector dish from the cargo bay and uses it to create a subspace rift. Chakotay orders the cargo bay depressurized, jettisoning all the drones into space except Seven who manages to stay. Though the crew regain control of the dish, the rift has grown large enough to draw Voyager into it.
During Star Trek Generations, Enterprise-D was lost in 2371 after an attack by the Duras sisters using a Bird-of-Prey, which caused extensive damage to the ship, which lead to a warp core breach.
