Its county seat and largest city is Akron. [4] The county was formed on March 3, 1840, from portions of Medina, Portage and Stark counties.

The racial makeup of the village was 98.69% White , 0.18% African American , 0.05% Native American , 0.15% Asian , and 0.92% from two or more races.
