La Vie parisienne (French pronunciation: [la vi paʁizjɛn], Parisian life) is an opéra bouffe, or operetta, composed by Jacques Offenbach, with a libretto by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy. [1] This work was Offenbach's first full-length piece to portray contemporary Parisian life, unlike his earlier period pieces and mythological subjects.

The Théâtre des Bouffes-Parisiens (French: [teɑtʁ de buf paʁizjɛ̃]) is a Parisian theatre founded in 1855 by the composer Jacques Offenbach for the performance of opéra bouffe and operetta. The current theatre is located in the 2nd arrondissement at 4 rue Monsigny with an entrance at the back at 65 Passage Choiseul.

From 1856 to 1862, Berthelier was a member of the Opéra-Comique company, creating parts in Barkouf by Offenbach and in Maître Pathelin by François Bazin, before leaving to appear at the Palais-Royal in La Vie parisienne and at the Bouffes-Parisiens in Les bergers, L'île de Tulipatan, La princesse de Trébizonde and Boule-de-Neige.
